America's WETLAND Community & Culture Summit

At the America's WETLAND Community & Culture Summit, U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu and Secretary Jack Caldwell, Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, presented an AW Flag to Mayor Ray Nagin, City of New Orleans, showing the City of New Orleans support for saving coastal Louisiana. Senator Landrieu also presented an AW Flag to Council Chairman Aaron Broussard, Jefferson Parish, indicating their support for the AW campaign as well. AW Flags are being presented to city and parish leaders who joined the AW campaign as "Community Partners," to display outside city buildings.

On August 22, 2003, Representatives from all over the State gathered in Lake Charles, LA at the America's WETLAND Community & Culture Summit to compare notes on the threat to the unique culture of communities whose very existence is threatened by wetland loss. The summit was the third in a series of seven summits that will each bring together a specific audience to address different issues related to Louisiana's coastal land loss.
