Houma Courier: Volunteers plant 1,000 cypress trees to aid wetlands

About 150 volunteers planted 1,000 bald cypress seedlings today as part of a coastal-restoration project in southeastern Terrebonne Parish.

It’s the last of three projects that combined have planted 30,000 trees to help restore a historic cypress forest in the state-owned Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area. The trees will help hold together about 100 acres of wetlands battered by saltwater intrusion and erosion.
