Delta Farms – Shoreline Restoration

The project site is located along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway near the town of Larose. For years the landowner expended hundreds of thousands of dollars building and rebuilding a berm in an attempt to re-establish an historic shoreline that separated his property from the canal. The project restored one mile of shoreline by establishing earthen berms and fortifying them with a recycled plastic matrix that was planted with native grasses. More than two years after installation, the project is an unqualified success, leaving a healthy and productive natural environment that provides vital feeding, resting and roosting habitat for migratory birds and waterfowl.
